Estate Administration and Probate Process: Understanding what needs to be done when a loved one passes away

So your duty as executor has kicked in. And now you have to navigate the probate process. Not sure what probate is? You’re not alone! The probate court oversees an orderly transfer of title of the decedent’s (deceased person’s) assets from the decedent’s name to his or her beneficiaries. Local estate planning and elder law attorney Jeff Rivard will explain how the probate process works and you’ll learn the important steps you need to take in order to administer an estate. You’ll also learn about living trusts and how these tools can help avoid probate. And finally, you’ll learn about some of the potential pitfalls in the process and how careful planning can avoid them.

Medicare and the Mass Affluent

Fully understanding how and when to enroll in Medicare Parts A & B can be difficult alone, but Parts C and D options can be stressful and confusing for the vast majority of people eligible for Medicare. Also, there are gaps in Medicare coverage that can be filled with various supplement plans. Medicare supplement plans vary by the state or county. Learn about the different choices available based on health to help direct a client on a plan that makes the most "cents" for their budget. This session will help understand how Medicare interacts with other aspects of the planning. Equipped with this enhanced perspective, an financial professional can differentiate his advice from most other advisors while improving the outcomes for retired and retiring clients.

Ethics: Society of Financial Services Professionals Code of Professional Responsibility (Part 1 of 3)

The ultimate goal of Ethical behavior is to serve the public interest. The path to fulfilling this goal is the fostering of professionalism in financial services.

A professional has been defined in the writings of Solomon S. Huebner as possessing four essential traits:
• knowledge or expertise
• service to others
• working with other professionals to enhance the practice and reputation of one who is a member
• self-regulation

Each session (June, September and October) will cover various aspects of Ethical behavior. Each hour session will include presentation and discussion on practical applications.

This is the first of 3 sessions providing guidance and practical application of Ethical Standards. At our June meeting, we will be focusing on Fairness and Competence. Each hour session will include presentation and discussion on practical applications.

Come prepared to be engaged and encouraged.
