Social Security and Medicare…Understanding the Benefits

This course introduces the basic concepts of Social Security and Medicare and will educate attendees on the terminology used by the Social Security Administration. We will discuss qualifications for retirement benefits and filing decisions for married couples, widows and widowers, divorced individuals and singles. The taxation of Social Security retirement benefits is also included, along with the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset, both of which can reduce total retirement benefits. Medicare Parts A – D are discussed, including coverages, deductibles, premiums, and out-of-pocket costs. This also explains the Medicare Donut Hole and Medigap policies offered by commercial insurance companies.
